Linking with the ontology

At a glance

Linking with the ontology lets you associate spreadsheet rows with entities from your business model. This association enriches both sides: the spreadsheet displays the entity context, and the entity references the associated tabular data.

Before you begin

  • Have a spreadsheet with data
  • Have entities created in the ontology (see Ontology)

Adding an Entity type column

  1. In your spreadsheet, click + to add a column.
  2. Name the column (e.g. Customer, Project, Product).
  3. Select the Entity type.
  4. Optional: filter by entity type to restrict the choices (e.g. only entities of type Customer).
  5. Click Create.

Linking a row to an entity

  1. Click on a cell in the Entity column.
  2. A selector opens with the list of available entities.
  3. Search by name or browse the list.
  4. Select the entity.

The cell displays the entity name with a colored badge corresponding to its type.

Search in the selector

The entity selector supports:

  • Search by name: type the first letters of the entity name
  • Filter by type: if the filter is configured on the column, only entities of the chosen type appear
  • Recent entities: recently linked entities appear first

Click on the entity name in the cell to open its details page in the Ontology module. This lets you view its properties, relationships and history without leaving the spreadsheet context.

When an entity is linked to a spreadsheet, this information is visible from the Ontology module:

  1. Open the entity in the entity browser.
  2. In the Associated data section, you will see the list of linked spreadsheets and rows.
  1. Click on the cell in the Entity column.
  2. Click on the X icon next to the entity name.

Removing the link does not delete the spreadsheet row or the entity in the ontology.
